A native of Waterford and Lansingburgh, Phil graduated from LaSalle Institute in 1965. He received his BA from Siena College and his degree in Mortuary Science from McAllister Institute in New York City. He and his wife Gerry started the funeral home in 1974 the year after they were wed. He is the father of Dr. P.J. Brendese III, Jeanette M. Brendese, Jonathan J. Brendese and Nicholas J. Brendese.
Phil is a very active member of the community serving as a member and past president of the Waterford Lions Club, a member of Waterford Knights of Columbus Council #237 and of the Cohoes Waterford Lodge of Elks. He also was named a "Village Patroon" of Waterford and was charter member and past president of the Waterford Youth Council Soccer League. He is an honorary member of the Waterford Rescue Squad, a member of St. Mary's Finance Committee and a lector at St. Mary's Church in Waterford. Phil served on the former Leonard Hospital Foundation Board, the Saratoga County Catholic Charities Board, and the Ad-hoc Committee the Broad Street Rehabilitation Project.
