WATERFORD Lori Anne Wright of Waterford, NY and St. Petersburg, FL passed away on May 23, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her father Joseph Wright, her brother Tommy Wright, her niece Stephanie Gregory and her nephew David Wright.
Lori grew up in Waterford and graduated from St. Mary’s School and Keveny Academy. She was employed by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles and the NYS Department of Labor over a period of ten years. She took a sabbatical for a year and a half to indulge a passion for live performance and worked backstage in San Francisco theatre and Santa Fe opera productions. Lori also studied desktop video production for a year before earning a degree in creative writing from Empire State College. She relocated to Florida where she accepted employment with the Florida Department of Health, where she worked until her passing.
Lori’s interests and avocations were many and diverse. She played a wicked first base for Pub Laurent in the Cohoes Women’s Softball league for eight years. This piqued her interest in Major League baseball and she became an avid fan of the NY Mets. Once she moved to Florida, she frequently watched or attended the Tampa Bay Rays games, but her heart always remained with the Mets. She loved Saratoga Race Course and made it a priority to return to the Capital region each August to place a wager and enjoy the anticipation of her horse thundering down the stretch and eking out a win. Lori was a trivia buff who routinely won every Trivial Pursuit game she played and she couldn't be beat at Jeopardy. She loved travel and her recent trip to Ireland fulfilled a lifelong dream.
Lori’s heart was inversely proportional to her stature. She would do anything for family and friends. For more than a decade, Lori was the primary caregiver for her parents and she sacrificed a large portion of her personal life to tend to their needs.
Lori is survived by her mother, Frances (Yattaw) Wright, and her siblings: Sharon Bader (Todd), J. Craig Wright (Carole) and Donna Gregory (J. Clark). She leaves behind several nieces and nephews: Samantha Bader, Corey Vanderwouw, Kate Warren, Zachary, Emily and Mallory Wright, Peter Gregory and Meaghan Harkins (Paul) and several great nieces and nephews.
A wake and celebration of life will be held Sunday June 17, 2018 from 10 a.m.-noon at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad Street (Rte.32), Waterford. Online condolences may be made at www.brendesefuneralhome.com
